Requirements for using Java applications

Java is a programming language. Java-programs are transfered to bytecode and executed in a special environment (the Java runtime environment). The advantage of this programming language is the fact that those Java runtime environment - also called Java Virtual Machine - is available for different computer architectures and operating systems. Therewith one and the same program can be executed by all of those computers. Simply the installation of the Java-VM is required.
The Java Virtual Machine is available at: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp or http://www.java.com.

If Java is already installed, it has optionally to be activated for your Browser. When using FireFox go to 'Edit - Preferences'. At the new window you can find a tab called 'Content'. Activate the check box 'Enable Java' to make Java applications run in your browser..

You can find the source code of all Java applications presented at HomoFaciens at the column Download.
